The United Farmers Front has been maintaining a solid seven‑day sit‑in at the Chandigarh‑Mohali border, pressing the government for a meeting and warning of a major announcement if demands are not met.
The United Farmers Front (UFF) began a continuous, seven‑day protest on the Chandigarh‑Mohali border on Monday, setting up a permanent encampment that blocks the main entry point between the union territory and Punjab. The sit‑in, described by organizers as a "pukka" or solid front, aims to keep pressure on authorities while farmers from across the region gather.
Organizers say they are waiting for an official invitation from the state and central governments to discuss their grievances. In statements released at the camp, the front warned that if a meeting is not scheduled soon, they will issue a "big announcement" to highlight the farmers' cause and intensify their demands for better loan waivers, minimum support prices and implementation of promised reforms.
The protest adds to a series of farmer agitations that have continued since the 2020 farm laws protests, though this particular demonstration focuses on unresolved issues specific to Punjab's agrarian community. Local police have reported no major incidents so far, but have kept the area under close watch as the sit‑in enters its eighth day.
