Farmers in Mohali handed a memorandum to the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate demanding the commencement of paddy procurement.
Mohali, Punjab – A group of local paddy growers met with the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate (SDM) on Tuesday and submitted a formal memorandum urging the authorities to initiate the procurement of harvested paddy. The farmers said that the delay in starting the purchase process is affecting their ability to sell the crop at the announced Minimum Support Price (MSP). They requested that the procurement schedule be aligned with the harvesting timeline to prevent post‑harvest losses.
The memorandum highlighted that the current procurement window, as announced by the state agriculture department, has not yet been activated in the Mohali region. The farmers appealed for immediate action so that the procurement agencies can mobilise trucks and storage facilities before the crop deteriorates.
State officials have not yet responded publicly to the submission. The agriculture department typically coordinates with the Food Corporation of India and state procurement agencies to implement the MSP scheme, and any delay can impact both farmer incomes and regional grain supplies.
