A Facebook advertisement promising large gains from stock market investments lured a resident of Mandi Mullanpur into a ₹73.25‑lakh loss, prompting four criminal cases.

A resident of Mandi Mullanpur in Punjab was deceived by a Facebook post that promised substantial profits from stock market investments, leading him to invest ₹73.25 lakh in a scheme that turned out to be fraudulent. The advertisement, which appeared to be from a reputed financial advisor, attracted the man’s attention with bold claims of guaranteed returns. After the investment, the individual realized that the promised returns never materialized and that the scheme was a scam. In response, authorities have filed four criminal cases against the promoters of the fraudulent scheme, and the victim is seeking compensation for his losses. The incident has raised concerns about the prevalence of online investment scams in India and the need for stricter regulation of financial advertisements on social media platforms.
