During the first phase of Rajasthan's Panchayat elections in Bhilwara, a malfunction in electronic voting machines stopped voting at several polling stations, with reports of a jammed Congress 'hand' button.
The first phase of the Panchayati Raj elections in Rajasthan began on Thursday, with voters in Bhilwara district heading to the polls to elect local village representatives. Election officials had deployed electronic voting machines (EVMs) across numerous booths as part of the standard voting process.
In several booths across the district, the EVMs experienced technical failures that halted the voting process. Reports indicated that the malfunction affected the operation of the machines, and in at least one instance the Congress party's designated "hand" button was found jammed, preventing the casting of votes.
Election authorities have been dispatched to the affected polling stations to troubleshoot the machines and restore functionality. Voters have been advised to wait while technicians address the issue, and the election commission has pledged to ensure that the voting schedule is resumed as soon as possible without compromising the integrity of the election.
