Madhya Pradesh's Rewa Economic Offences Wing has filed two cases—corruption and fraud—against Surendra Pratap Singh Baghel, the ex‑in‑charge of Satna's Amkui service cooperative, citing a mismatch between his declared income of Rs 17 lakh and expenditures exceeding Rs 57 lakh.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh has lodged two separate criminal complaints against Surendra Pratap Singh Baghel, who previously served as the in‑charge manager of the Satna Service Cooperative Committee, Amkui. The complaints allege corruption and fraud, focusing on a stark discrepancy between Baghel's reported legitimate earnings of Rs 17 lakh and his documented outlays that total more than Rs 57 lakh.

Investigators say the financial gap raises serious suspicion of illicit income sources and misuse of cooperative funds. The EOW has initiated a formal inquiry to trace the origins of the excess expenditure and to determine whether public or cooperative resources were diverted for personal use.

Baghel, who held the managerial post until recently, has not been taken into custody as of the filing of the cases, but the EOW has issued a notice for him to appear for questioning. The department has also seized relevant financial records and cooperative account statements to support its investigation.

The two cases underscore the vigilance of state law‑enforcement agencies in curbing financial irregularities within local cooperative bodies, which are pivotal to regional development and public welfare.

Further updates will follow as the investigation progresses and the court proceedings commence.
