The strike by emergency health service staff over the 108 ambulance system has entered its second day, leading the health department to direct district officials to use private and taluk hospital vehicles as an alternative.

The strike by staff of the 108 emergency ambulance service has entered its second day, affecting the entire state of Karnataka. The industrial action was launched by health‑service employees demanding resolution of long‑standing grievances.

The disruption has hampered the provision of emergency medical care, leaving patients and their families without the usual rapid response. Hospitals across the state have reported increased pressure on their own emergency facilities as the regular ambulance network remains non‑functional.

In response, the state health department issued a directive to district magistrates, instructing them to mobilise private vehicles and taluk‑level hospital transport to fill the gap in emergency transport services. The temporary arrangement aims to ensure that critical patients can still reach medical facilities despite the strike.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are in contact with the striking workers to seek a resolution, while urging the public to cooperate with the alternative transport measures until normal ambulance services resume.
