The SpaceX founder accused powerful interests of blocking Starlink’s entry into the Indian market.
Elon Musk, the chief executive of SpaceX and Tesla, publicly denounced the forces he described as “oligarchs” for obstructing the launch of Starlink’s satellite‑internet service in India. His remarks, made on social media, suggested that a small group of powerful interests is deliberately delaying the company’s market entry.
Musk’s criticism comes as Starlink seeks regulatory clearance from the Department of Telecommunications and the spectrum allocation process continues. Indian authorities have been reviewing applications from foreign satellite‑internet providers, and the debate over national security, data sovereignty and competition has slowed progress.
The Indian government and the telecom regulator have not yet responded to Musk’s statements. Until the pending approvals are granted, Starlink’s rollout in the country remains on hold, leaving users and investors uncertain about the timeline for service launch.
