A senior Election Commission delegation arrived in Manipur to evaluate the logistical and security arrangements for upcoming elections across five states, according to The Economic Times.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) dispatched a high‑level monitoring team to Imphal, Manipur, on Monday to review the state's preparedness for conducting elections in five neighboring states. The officials will inspect polling stations, voter‑verification systems, and security protocols to ensure a smooth voting process.
Sources said the team, led by a senior election officer, will meet with Manipur's Chief Electoral Officer and local law‑enforcement agencies to identify any gaps in infrastructure, transport and personnel deployment. Their findings will inform corrective actions before the scheduled polling dates later this year.
The review comes amid heightened scrutiny of election logistics across the Northeast, where challenging terrain and security concerns often complicate poll execution. The ECI aims to pre‑empt disruptions by addressing issues such as power supply, internet connectivity for electronic voting machines, and the availability of trained staff.
The commission has not disclosed the exact list of the five states under review, but officials indicated they include regions with recent electoral tensions. The Manipur team will submit a detailed report to the central election authority within the next two weeks.
