An elderly resident of Mohali was duped of ₹1.8 lakh after a fraudster pretended to be a bank official, according to local reports.

According to a report by Amar Ujala, an elderly man in Mohali fell victim to a financial scam in which the perpetrator claimed to be a bank official and extracted ₹1.8 lakh from him. The fraudster allegedly approached the senior citizen, presented forged identification, and convinced him that the money was required for a bank‑related transaction.

Police in Mohali have registered a case and are actively investigating the incident. Investigators are seeking witnesses and reviewing any CCTV footage that might capture the suspect’s movements in the area.

Authorities have warned the public to remain vigilant against similar impersonation scams, emphasizing that genuine bank officials never request cash transfers or personal funds in person without prior verification through official channels.
