A cheetah cub estimated to be eight months old died recently in Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh. The young animal was one of five offspring of a Namibian‑origin female cheetah known as Asha, which was introduced to the park as part of a conservation programme.
With the loss of this cub, Asha now has four surviving cubs out of the original five. Park officials confirmed the death but said that the exact reason remains unknown at this stage.
Veterinarians have scheduled a post‑mortem examination, and the findings will be released once the report is completed. The incident highlights the challenges of rearing big‑cat cubs in captivity and the ongoing monitoring required for the species' recovery in the region.
