A Durga Puja pandal in Dhanbad, constructed using around one lakh live plants, has become a major attraction for visitors this year.
The city of Dhanbad in Jharkhand unveiled an eco‑friendly Durga Puja pandal this week, with its structure and decorations created from roughly one hundred thousand live plants. The green pandal, set up in a prominent public area, replaces conventional plaster and synthetic materials traditionally used for festival installations.
Visitors have flocked to the site, drawn by the novelty of a fully vegetative pandal and the festive atmosphere of the Puja celebrations. Organisers report that the crowd size has been significantly higher than in previous years, reflecting growing public interest in environmentally sustainable cultural events.
The initiative, led by local cultural groups in collaboration with municipal authorities, aims to reduce plastic waste and promote biodiversity during the festival. Officials praised the effort as a model for future celebrations, noting that the live‑plant design also provides a temporary green space that will be replanted after the festivities conclude.
