The Election Commission has set October 6 for by‑elections in five state assembly constituencies and one parliamentary constituency, with nominations closing on September 16 and results to be counted on October 9.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that by‑polls for five legislative‑assembly constituencies across different states and one Lok Sabha constituency will be held on October 6, 2026. The schedule follows vacancies created by resignations, deaths or disqualifications.
Candidates can submit nomination papers until September 16, after which the commission will scrutinise the applications and release the final list of contestants. Polling will be conducted under the standard model code of conduct, with security and logistical arrangements overseen by central and state election officials.
Counting of votes is slated for October 9, three days after the poll, and results will be declared electronically. The ECI has urged political parties and voters to adhere to the code of conduct and ensure a peaceful, transparent electoral process.
These by‑polls arrive as several states prepare for upcoming general elections, and the outcomes may offer early signals of voter sentiment ahead of the 2029 national polls.
