The Election Commission has issued a formal notification to hold biennial elections for eleven Rajya Sabha seats across various states.

New Delhi – The Election Commission of India has released an official notification calling for biennial elections to fill eleven vacancies in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament. The notification outlines the timetable and procedural guidelines that will govern the election process, which will be conducted by elected members of the respective state legislative assemblies.

The seats slated for election are due to become vacant as per the constitutional schedule, prompting the EC to initiate the biennial poll to ensure uninterrupted representation in the upper chamber. The commission has reiterated that the elections will be held in accordance with the Representation of People Act and existing parliamentary rules.

Stakeholders, including political parties and state legislators, are expected to submit their nominations within the window specified in the notification. The EC has also reminded participants to adhere to the code of conduct and maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

The upcoming Rajya Sabha elections are seen as a routine yet significant exercise, influencing the composition of the house and, by extension, the legislative dynamics at the national level.
