Former bureaucrat Dushyant Gautam is scheduled to take the oath of office as Sikkim's new governor today.
New Delhi has announced that Dushyant Gautam will be sworn in as the Governor of Sikkim later today. The oath‑taking ceremony is expected to be held at the Raj Bhavan in Gangtok, where he will formally assume the constitutional duties of the state’s head.
Gautam, a former senior civil servant, was appointed by the President of India following the completion of the term of the previous governor. As governor, he will act as the ceremonial head of the state, oversee the administration of oath to the chief minister and other officials, and ensure that state legislation complies with the Constitution.
The swearing‑in is being closely watched by political observers, as the governor’s role can be pivotal in matters such as legislative assent and the imposition of President’s Rule, should the need arise. Gautam’s tenure will begin immediately after the oath, marking the latest change in Sikkim’s constitutional leadership.
