Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport stopped a passenger arriving from Dubai, discovering gold rods valued at approximately Rs 4.03 crore.

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport security intercepted a passenger on a flight from Dubai after detecting irregularities during the customs screening. The individual was found carrying several gold rods whose combined market value is estimated at Rs 4.03 crore.

According to airport officials, the gold was concealed in luggage and did not have the requisite customs declaration. Under the Customs Act, import of gold exceeding the permitted limits requires prior permission and payment of duty, which was not presented in this case.

The seized gold has been handed over to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs for further examination, and a formal investigation has been launched to determine whether the shipment was intended for smuggling or other illicit purposes. No arrests have been reported so far, and the passenger is currently being questioned by authorities.

The incident underscores heightened vigilance by Indian customs agencies following a series of high‑value gold smuggling attempts in recent months. Officials reiterated that any violation of import regulations will attract strict penalties, including seizure of the goods and legal action against the offenders.
