A drunken husband allegedly strangled his wife after she declined to cook so she could attend a dance class, according to police statements.
Police in an Indian district said a 30‑year‑old man, intoxicated at the time, attacked his 28‑year‑old wife with a blunt object after she told him she would not prepare a meal because she had a scheduled dance class. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, and neighbours reported hearing a loud argument before hearing a scream.
Emergency services arrived within minutes and found the victim with severe head injuries. She was declared dead at the scene. The accused was arrested on the spot, placed in handcuffs, and taken to the local police station for questioning.
Investigators have opened a homicide case under sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with murder and domestic violence. The man's family members were also questioned, and a statement from the victim's sister indicated that the couple had a history of frequent quarrels over household responsibilities.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence in India, especially when alcohol abuse is involved. Authorities have urged the public to report any signs of domestic abuse promptly and have reiterated the availability of helplines for victims.
Further details will be released as the investigation proceeds, and the accused is expected to appear before a magistrate within the next 24 hours.
