The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Hyderabad seized four elephant tusks and detained three individuals suspected of illegal wildlife trade.
Hyderabad’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) carried out a raid in the city’s outskirts, confiscating four elephant tusks that were being smuggled out of the state. The operation also resulted in the arrest of three individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal wildlife trade.
The seized tusks are believed to be part of a larger network that traffics protected wildlife products, a crime that carries stringent penalties under the Wildlife Protection Act. Authorities said the items were likely intended for the black market, where they fetch high prices among collectors.
A senior DRI official confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the contraband and to identify any additional accomplices. The seized ivory will be handed over to the Forest Department for proper disposal, and the arrested suspects will face prosecution under relevant wildlife and anti-smuggling laws.
