NEED 24 NEWS

Devadurga, October 6: The chariot of the Karnataka Dhamma Awareness Yatra, which began on October 5 with the objective of creating awareness among people about building an enlightened India based on the Constitution and promoting the humanistic values of Buddhist Dhamma, arrived in Devadurga town.

On the occasion, Buddhist followers, Ambedkarite thinkers and progressive activists warmly welcomed the chariot and extended their support to programmes aimed at creating awareness about the objectives of the Yatra and the human values of Dhamma.

The chariot, which arrived from Hazrat Jahiruddin Pasha Circle in the town, was welcomed by leaders and activists of various organisations. Later, floral tributes were paid to the statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Speaking on the occasion, Zen Monk Dr. Shaku Bodhi Dhamma, Secretary of the International Buddhist Youth Organization India and National President of the Global Dr. Ambedkar Buddhist Mission, USA, said that India has completed 76 years since the adoption of its Constitution. He said that the architect of the Constitution, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, provided equal rights to every Indian based on human values such as equality, liberty, justice and fraternity.

He said that from the time of Tathagata Gautama Buddha to the reigns of Buddhist rulers such as Emperor Ashoka and Kanishka, governance was based on the humanistic principles of Dhamma, with all citizens being treated with equality, justice and compassion. He stressed the need to re-establish these human values in today's society and administrative system.

On October 14, 1956, at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar revived Buddhist Dhamma and placed before the world the great vision of building an enlightened India. The Dhamma Awareness Yatra has been organised across Karnataka with the objective of taking forward and fulfilling this vision, he said.

He further stated that a grand programme has been planned at the historic and auspicious land of Sannati (Kanaganahalli), where around 5 lakh Buddhist followers are expected to participate in a mass Dhamma initiation ceremony. He said that protecting and developing the Buddhist heritage of Sannati is the responsibility of everyone.

As part of the effort to build a Constitution-based enlightened India and to mark the 70th anniversary of the Buddhist Dhamma initiation, a grand Buddhist Dhamma initiation ceremony will be held on November 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the ancient Emperor Ashoka Stupa complex in Sannati (Kanaganahalli), Chittapur taluk, he informed.

He appealed to Ambedkarites, Buddhist followers, the Bhikkhu Sangha, Upasaka-Upasika organisations, social and political leaders, members of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and all Bahujan organisations to participate in large numbers in this historic campaign and make the programme successful.

The Dhamma Awareness Yatra is being organised jointly by the International Buddhist Youth Organization India, Global Dr. Ambedkar Buddhist Mission, USA, All India Dr. Ambedkar Bhikkhu Sangha, and the Buddhist Mahashad Development and Conservation Organisation, Sannati (Kanaganahalli).

Senior members and activists including Mallesappa Hunagundabad, N. Lingappa Jalahalli, Hussenappa Jalahalli, Rangappa Gosal, Mahantesh Bhavani, Hanumanth Mannapur, Vishwanath Ballidav, Muniyappa Nagoli, Mohan Ballidav, Shivraj Rudrakshi, Gundappa Nayak, Devappa Badiger Chinchodi, Ranganath Kombin, Mallikarjun Bommanal, Shivu Anchesugur, and Rahul Devadurga, among others, were present.
