The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued a directive prohibiting a particular power bank from being carried on commercial flights across India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced a new safety directive that bars a specific power bank from being taken aboard any Indian commercial flight. The circular, circulated to all airlines and airport authorities, requires the device to be removed from passenger luggage before boarding.

DGCA officials said the ban is motivated by concerns that the battery’s design could pose a fire risk under cabin pressure and temperature conditions. While the exact model was not disclosed in the public notice, airlines have been instructed to enforce the restriction uniformly.

Air carriers have begun informing passengers through email alerts and in‑flight announcements, urging travelers to check their electronic accessories prior to travel. Travelers found with the prohibited power bank may be asked to surrender it at check‑in or face denial of boarding.

The move aligns with global aviation safety practices that limit high‑capacity lithium‑ion devices on aircraft. DGCA will monitor compliance and may update the list of restricted items as new safety data emerges.
