Devotees Gather at Kamta Nath Temple in Chitrakoot on Bhadrapada Amavasya Despite Floods

On Bhadrapada Amavasya, pilgrims braved recent floods in Chitrakoot to bathe in the Mandakini River and circumambulate the five‑kilometre Kamadagiri before offering prayers at the Kamta Nath shrine.
Recent heavy rains have caused flooding in parts of Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, but the water did not deter devotees who arrived on Bhadrapada Amavasya to honour Lord Kamta Nath. The pilgrim crowd gathered at the temple complex despite the swollen Mandakini River and disrupted road access.
After reaching the ghats, worshippers performed a ritual dip in the Mandakini, a traditional act believed to cleanse sins. They then embarked on a five‑kilometre circumambulation of the Kamadagiri hill, a customary pilgrimage route that tests stamina and devotion.
The devotees concluded their journey by entering the Kamta Nath shrine, where they offered prayers and sought blessings. Organisers noted that the turnout reflected the community’s steadfast faith, even in the face of adverse weather conditions.
