Demand for Re-inclusion in Devadurga Taluk: Massive Protest by Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Villagers

NEED 24 NEWS
Jalahalli, October 12: Thousands of villagers from the Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayat areas staged a massive protest in front of the Jalahalli Nadakacheri on Monday, demanding that both Gram Panchayats be re-included in Devadurga Taluk and Jalahalli Hobli.
Following the formation of Arakera Taluk, the Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayats were brought under Arakera Taluk. Protesters alleged that this change had caused considerable inconvenience to local residents, who now face difficulties accessing education, healthcare, transportation, trade, and government services.
Foot March from Various Villages
Residents of Ganadhal, Kakkaladoddi, Somanamaradi, Bogiramanagunda, Sampatrayanadoddi, Mayakaldoddi, Kamaladinni, and several other villages took out foot marches along different routes and arrived at the Jalahalli Nadakacheri.
Thousands of villagers, including women, participated in the protest and urged the government to fulfil their demand.
Jalahalli Has Essential Facilities
Addressing the protest, advocate Basavaraj Ganadhal said that Jalahalli town has several essential facilities, including a Community Health Centre, Nadakacheri, police station, veterinary hospital, agricultural centre, post office, 33 kV power station, and banks.
He pointed out that State Highway No. 61 passes through Jalahalli, providing convenient transportation facilities. The town also offers easy access to Raichur, the district headquarters, and other towns.
Considering these geographical and administrative advantages, he urged the government to re-include the villages in Devadurga Taluk and Jalahalli Hobli.
Speaking on the occasion, Sabanna Kammaladinni stated that Jalahalli is more convenient for residents of these villages in terms of education, healthcare, transportation, and commercial activities.
He said that after the villages were included in Arakera Taluk, people had been facing difficulties in completing administrative work.
He urged the authorities to appoint officials to visit the concerned villages, gather public opinion, and take an appropriate decision based on scientific, geographical, and administrative considerations.
The villagers also appealed to the government to review the relevant provisions of Section 4(2)(a) of the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act, 1993, and the Karnataka Land Revenue Act, 1964, to reconsider the administrative jurisdiction of the villages.
Allegations of Inaction Despite Inspection Orders
The protesters alleged that although the Deputy Commissioner's office had issued an order on October 18, 2025, directing the Tahsildars of Devadurga and Arakera to conduct an inspection, no appropriate action had been taken so far.
The protesters expressed their anger towards officials from the offices of both taluks who arrived at the spot and raised slogans demanding immediate action.
Following assurances from the officials that the issue would be taken seriously and addressed at the earliest, the protesters submitted their memorandum and concluded the demonstration.
Warning of Election Boycott
Shivanagouda Desai warned that if the Ganadhal and Somanamaradi Gram Panchayats were not re-included in Devadurga Taluk, the villagers would boycott the upcoming Gram Panchayat, Taluk Panchayat, and Zilla Panchayat elections.
