The Delhi administration has indicated that firecrackers will be allowed for Diwali 2026, subject to specific zones and timing restrictions.
Delhi’s municipal authorities have clarified that a complete ban on firecrackers will not be imposed for Diwali 2026. Officials say the festive season will see permission granted for the use of fireworks in designated residential and commercial zones, provided they comply with existing air‑quality norms.
The permissible window is expected to be limited to evening hours, typically from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., to minimise pollution spikes. Low‑noise and environmentally‑friendly crackers are being encouraged, while the use of high‑decibel devices may attract penalties.
The decision follows a series of temporary restrictions imposed in recent years to curb smog levels during the festival. The administration has urged citizens to follow the stipulated guidelines and cooperate with enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and cleaner Diwali.
