Delhi government will cap e‑rickshaws at 250,000 and introduce safety regulations within 90 days.

The Delhi government announced a new e‑rickshaw policy that will cap the total number of electric rickshaws operating in the capital at 2.5 lakh.

The limit is aimed at easing traffic congestion and environmental pressure, and will be enforced through a revised registration and renewal system.

Within the next 90 days, authorities will roll out a safety framework covering vehicle fitness, driver licensing, speed limits and mandatory helmet use.

The Transport Department, in coordination with the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, will monitor compliance via periodic inspections.

Industry groups have sought clarity on the timeline for existing operators, while officials say the measures will bring order to the sector and improve passenger safety.
