The Delhi government announced that from 1 November the revised Green Rechargeable and Alternate Power (GRAP) scheme will tighten vehicle registration caps to curb traffic and pollution.

Delhi's transport authorities announced on Monday that the Green Rechargeable and Alternate Power (GRAP) scheme will be revised and take effect from 1 November. The updated framework will impose stricter limits on the number of new vehicles that can be registered each month, aiming to curb the city's chronic traffic congestion and deteriorating air quality.

The original GRAP policy, introduced in 2023, categorised vehicles based on emission standards and allocated registration quotas accordingly. Under the fresh curbs, the quota thresholds will be lowered for higher‑emission categories, while encouraging the uptake of electric and low‑emission models.

Officials said the revision is part of Delhi's broader strategy to meet national air‑quality targets and reduce greenhouse‑gas emissions. They added that the government will monitor compliance closely and may adjust the caps further if required.

The move is expected to influence both private car owners and commercial fleets, prompting a shift toward cleaner mobility options as the city strives to improve its environmental outlook.
