Delhi to Ban Petrol and Diesel Sales to Vehicles Without Valid PUC Certificate from Tomorrow

From tomorrow, Delhi will prohibit the sale of petrol and diesel to any vehicle that does not present a current Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, officials said.
The Delhi government announced that, starting tomorrow, fuel stations across the capital will refuse to dispense petrol or diesel to any vehicle that cannot produce a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. The directive, issued by the Transport Department, is part of a broader effort to tighten emission standards and ensure compliance with existing environmental norms.
Officials explained that the measure aims to curb vehicular pollution, which remains a major contributor to Delhi’s air‑quality challenges. By linking fuel access directly to the PUC test, authorities hope to encourage regular emissions checks and reduce the number of poorly maintained vehicles on the road.
Initial reports indicate that many drivers were unaware of the upcoming rule, leading to confusion at fuel pumps. Station attendants have been instructed to check the certificate before completing any transaction and to guide motorists on how to obtain a fresh PUC test if needed.
