The Delhi government has drafted regulations that would cap e‑rickshaw speed at 25 km per hour and restrict them to carrying no more than four passengers.

The Delhi administration has put forward a set of new guidelines for electric rickshaws operating in the capital. Under the proposal, each e‑rickshaw would be allowed to carry a maximum of four passengers at any time. In addition, the vehicles' top speed would be limited to 25 kilometres per hour, a measure aimed at enhancing road safety.

The draft rules are part of the city's broader effort to regulate the rapidly growing e‑rickshaw fleet, which has become a popular mode of short-distance travel. Officials say the speed cap and passenger limit are intended to reduce accidents and improve traffic flow.

If approved, the regulations will require e‑rickshaw owners to modify their vehicles to comply with the speed restriction and adhere to the passenger ceiling. The proposal will be presented to the municipal corporation for further review before it becomes enforceable.
