A Delhi police officer, accused of sexually harassing a woman, has been promoted, raising concerns about accountability within the force.
A Delhi police officer has been promoted to a higher rank after allegations of sexual harassment surfaced against him. The promotion was announced by the Delhi Police Department in a routine bulletin. The officer’s name was disclosed, but the department has not indicated any disciplinary action or investigation into the claims.
The allegations were reported by a woman who said the officer had harassed her. No formal charges have been filed, and the case is reportedly still under review by the police. The promotion has sparked criticism from civil society groups, who argue that the police should enforce stricter accountability for officers accused of misconduct.
Delhi Police officials stated that the promotion was based on the officer’s service record and that the allegations were being examined separately. The incident has drawn attention to the broader issue of sexual harassment within law‑enforcement agencies in India.
