Commuters in Delhi and the National Capital Region were stuck for several hours after traffic was brought to a standstill by road curbs imposed amid a protest involving the Chief Justice of India.
Delhi and the surrounding National Capital Region experienced a severe traffic slowdown on Thursday as authorities installed temporary curbs in response to a protest linked to the Chief Justice of India. The curbs, placed on major arterial roads, forced vehicles to halt, creating long queues that stretched for kilometres.
Motorists reported being stuck for up to four hours, with public transport services such as buses and metro feeder routes also delayed. Police and traffic police were deployed to manage the congestion and to guide stranded commuters toward alternative routes.
The protest, organized by legal activists, called for reforms in the judiciary and prompted the administration to take precautionary measures to prevent any disruption to court proceedings. While the curbs were intended as a security precaution, they inadvertently crippled daily commuting for thousands of residents.
Officials said the restrictions would be lifted once the protest concluded and normal traffic flow could be restored. In the meantime, commuters were advised to use peripheral roads and to stay updated through official traffic alerts.
