The Delhi government has ordered a halt on all construction and demolition activities across the National Capital Region from November 5 to 20 to reduce worsening air‑quality levels.

The administration of Delhi has issued a directive that all construction and demolition work within the National Capital Region will be stopped from 5 November through 20 November. The measure is aimed at curbing the sharp rise in particulate matter that has pushed the region’s air quality into hazardous zones.
Authorities say that construction sites generate dust and diesel emissions, which add significantly to the already high levels of PM2.5 and PM10 during the winter months. By pausing these activities, officials hope to lower ambient pollutant concentrations and give residents a brief respite from smog.
The order applies to both private contractors and public‑sector projects, and compliance will be monitored by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee. Violations could attract penalties as per existing environmental regulations.
The suspension follows similar short‑term bans imposed in previous years when air‑quality indices crossed critical thresholds. Experts caution that lasting improvement will require sustained policy action beyond temporary halts.
