India convenes the inaugural BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ meeting in Delhi, bringing together ministers from the seven member nations.

The inaugural BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ meeting commenced today in New Delhi, marking a historic step for the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi‑Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC). The gathering includes the home ministers of the seven member states – Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

Hosted by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, the two‑day summit aims to deepen cooperation on internal security, migration, disaster management and other cross‑border challenges. Officials said the forum will enable sharing of best practices and coordinated responses to common threats.

The meeting follows recent efforts to revitalize BIMSTEC’s institutional mechanisms after a period of limited activity. Observers note that holding the home ministers’ dialogue in the Indian capital underscores Delhi’s role in driving regional collaboration.

A joint communiqué outlining agreed priorities and next steps is expected to be issued at the conclusion of the summit.
