Delhi authorities have imposed GRAP 3 vehicle restrictions amid severe air quality conditions on Diwali, limiting the use of certain vehicles on the roads.
Delhi has announced strict GRAP 3 vehicle restrictions for the Diwali period as the city’s air quality index (AQI) has reached severe levels. The rules prohibit the use of 2‑wheelers and 3‑wheelers with engine capacities above 125 cc, 4‑wheelers with six or more seats, and commercial vehicles with six or more seats. Only 2‑wheelers and 3‑wheelers with engine capacities below 125 cc, 4‑wheelers with four or five seats, and commercial vehicles with four or five seats are allowed to circulate.
The restrictions apply to all roads in Delhi from the start of Diwali until the end of the festival. Vehicles must carry a valid GRAP 3 permit, and traffic police will enforce the rules with checkpoints and fines for non‑compliance. The move is part of the city’s effort to curb pollution and improve air quality during the festive season.
Officials say the restrictions are temporary and will be lifted once the AQI improves. The Delhi government has urged commuters to use public transport and electric vehicles where possible to reduce emissions during the holiday period.
