In Delhi, a staggering 99% of building fire incidents occurred in structures lacking valid safety certificates. Local authorities are demanding an integrated certificate control system to curb the risk.

Delhi’s fire safety audit revealed that nearly all fire incidents in buildings were linked to the absence of valid safety certificates. The data, released by the city’s fire department, shows that 99% of the cases involved structures that had either expired or never obtained the required certificates.

In response, the local government has called for an integrated Certificate Control Centre (CCC) that would streamline the issuance, renewal and verification of safety certificates across all building types. The proposed system aims to centralize data and reduce bureaucratic delays that often leave buildings unverified.

Officials argue that the lack of proper certification is a major contributor to the high number of fire-related casualties and property damage. They emphasize that a unified CCC would enable quicker inspections and enforce compliance, thereby improving overall fire safety.

The call for integration comes amid growing concerns over rapid urban development and the proliferation of high-rise structures that may not meet safety standards. The city administration plans to launch a pilot program next month to test the new system’s effectiveness.
