A fabricated video circulating online depicts former minister Girish Kalia apparently confirming a Chinese incursion in Arunachal Pradesh. Fact‑checkers have identified the clip as a deepfake.

A video that has been shared widely on social media shows former Union Minister Girish Kalia seemingly acknowledging a Chinese intrusion in Arunachal Pradesh. The clip, presented as a live interview, includes Kalia’s voice and likeness stating that Chinese forces had entered Indian territory.

BOOM Fact Check examined the footage using frame‑by‑frame analysis and forensic tools. The investigation revealed mismatched lip‑sync, altered background audio and digitally manipulated facial movements, confirming that the video is a deepfake created to mislead viewers.

Neither Girish Kalia nor his party has issued any statement confirming such remarks, and officials from the Ministry of External Affairs have reiterated that no such admission was made. The Ministry also warned that fabricated content could inflame public sentiment amid ongoing border tensions.

The incident underscores the growing challenge of synthetic media in India’s security discourse, especially as India and China continue to experience standoffs along the Line of Actual Control. Authorities are urging the public to verify sources before sharing unverified videos.
