Deepfake Video Misleads Viewers as BBC Reported Indian Passenger Attempting Hijack

A video purporting to show BBC footage of an Indian passenger attempting to hijack an Israel-bound flight went viral on social media. The clip depicts a passenger in a cockpit, allegedly demanding the plane be diverted, but the footage was later identified as a deepfake. Independent fact‑checkers traced the video’s source to a low‑resolution, edited clip that was uploaded to a video‑sharing platform and subsequently shared by multiple accounts. The BBC has issued a statement denying any coverage of such an incident, and no credible reports confirm an attempt to hijack a flight by an Indian passenger.
