Daljit Singh’s last rites were performed today in his ancestral village Bhamé Kalan, Mansa district, after the High Court altered its earlier order following a plea by his mother and sister.
Daljit Singh’s funeral took place today in his native village of Bhamé Kalan, located in Mansa district of Punjab. The ceremony was conducted after the Punjab High Court modified its previous directive, allowing the rites to be performed in the family’s ancestral hamlet.
The court’s decision came in response to a petition filed by Singh’s mother and sister, who argued that the deceased should be laid to rest in his birthplace rather than the location initially ordered by authorities. The bench reviewed the plea and issued a fresh order permitting the burial at Bhamé Kalan.
Local residents gathered to pay their respects, observing traditional customs as the body was taken to the village graveyard. The event underscores the role of family wishes in burial decisions and highlights how judicial intervention can resolve disputes over final rites in India.
