Heavy rains and strong winds from a cyclonic system forced authorities in Ranchi and East Singhbhum to shut schools for two days.
The regional education department announced a mandatory two‑day shutdown of all schools in Ranchi and East Singhbhum after a cyclonic disturbance brought heavy rainfall and gusty winds to the area. Officials said the decision was taken to safeguard students and staff from the hazardous weather conditions.
The closure applies to both government and private institutions from 24 September to 25 September, covering all classes from primary to higher secondary. Parents were instructed to keep children at home and avoid travel until the weather stabilises.
A spokesperson for the Jharkhand School Authority emphasized that safety remains the top priority and that regular monitoring of the cyclone’s progress will guide any further action. The department also urged parents to stay updated through official channels.
Schools are expected to reopen on 26 September, provided the forecast shows a significant reduction in wind speed and rainfall. In the meantime, teachers are encouraged to use online platforms for essential communications with students.
