The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that Cyclone Murasu will affect Kolkata and South Bengal with light rain and scattered storms over the next 24 hours.
Cyclone Murasu, a low‑pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal, is projected to move north‑westward, bringing weather disturbances to West Bengal's capital Kolkata and adjoining districts of South Bengal. According to the latest forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the system will produce light to moderate rainfall, with isolated gusty winds and occasional thunderstorms expected between 0600 and 1800 hours local time. Authorities have advised residents to stay alert, secure loose objects, and avoid non‑essential travel during the period of expected showers. No severe flooding or major damage has been forecast at this stage. The IMD will continue to monitor Cyclone Murasu and update the public with any changes in intensity or track, urging people to follow official advisories through radio, television and digital platforms.
