Meteorological officials say Cyclone Arnab has intensified, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to several coastal districts across India.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert that Cyclone Arnab is gaining strength as it moves closer to the Indian coastline. The system, currently over the Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify further before making landfall.
Forecasters warn that the cyclone will usher in heavy rain and powerful gusts across a number of coastal cities, raising the risk of flooding and wind‑related damage. Residents in low‑lying areas have been advised to secure property and stay prepared for sudden downpours.
State disaster management agencies have begun mobilising relief teams and pre‑positioning emergency supplies. Local authorities are urging people to heed evacuation notices where issued and to avoid non‑essential travel during the storm's peak.
The IMD continues to monitor Arnab closely, updating forecasts as the system evolves, and will issue further advisories should conditions change.
