Meteorological agencies have issued a weather alert as Cyclone Arnab approaches Nepal, raising the likelihood of intense rain and snowfall in the mountainous regions.

The national weather service of Nepal has issued an alert warning that Cyclone Arnab, currently tracking northward from the Bay of Bengal, could affect the country within the next 48 hours. The advisory highlights the potential for widespread heavy rainfall across the Terai plains and a heightened risk of snowfall in the higher Himalaya zones.

Meteorologists note that the cyclone’s outer bands are expected to bring sustained downpours to the eastern and central regions, while the interaction of cold air masses with the system may trigger snow showers in elevations above 3,000 metres. Such a combination of rain and snow is unusual for this time of year and could strain local drainage and snow‑melt patterns.

Authorities caution that the mixed precipitation could trigger landslides, flash floods, and road blockages, especially in remote mountain districts where infrastructure is vulnerable. Emergency response teams have been placed on standby, and travel advisories have been issued for affected highways and trekking routes.

Residents are urged to stay informed through official channels, secure property against water damage, and avoid venturing into flood‑prone or avalanche‑risk areas until the weather stabilises.
