Honnali, October 24, 2026: Government First Grade College, Honnali, organised a ceremony to inaugurate its cultural and sports activities, National Service Scheme (NSS) units, and Rovers and Rangers units, and to unveil the 16th edition of its wall magazine, Honnakirana.

Inaugurating the programme, MLA D. G. Shantanagouda commended the students for demonstrating their abilities through activities organised by the college’s various committees.

“The Youth Parliament programme was a great success. Arrangements will be made to take the participating students to witness the legislative session at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi. Through their discipline, self-restraint and talent, students have brought credit to the college. They should strive for even greater achievements,” he said.

H. B. Manjappa, Chairman of the Karnataka Bayaluseeme Area Development Board, unveiled the 16th edition of Honnakirana. He praised the college’s academic environment and its contribution to higher education for rural students from Honnali and Nyamati taluks.

“The college has a dedicated principal, committed teaching staff and an environment conducive to learning. Students should make the most of these opportunities,” he advised.

Chief guest Dr. H. M. Panchaksharaiah, an internationally recognised sociologist, appreciated the regular extracurricular activities conducted by the college’s committees. He observed that the students’ participation was on a par with that of students from prestigious institutions.

“Students should neither confine themselves to textbook learning nor focus exclusively on sports and extracurricular activities. They must strike a balance between academic learning and activities beyond the classroom,” he said.

Presiding over the programme, Principal Dr. B. G. Dhananjaya praised the students for their talent, enthusiasm for learning and exemplary discipline. He acknowledged the support of the teaching and non-teaching staff in creating a positive academic environment and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to providing greater opportunities for students and furthering institutional development.

Associate Professor of History Haralu Mahabaleshwara, who had been transferred from the college, was felicitated and given a warm farewell.

Final-year B.Sc. students Priya and Nandini compered the programme. Dr. Rajani C. V., Coordinator of the Cultural Committee, welcomed the gathering, and Irfan Basha proposed the vote of thanks.

IQAC Coordinator Raghavendra Rao, Head of the Science Department Dr. Beena P., Head of the Commerce Department Dr. Shambhulingappa Nallanavar, Selection Grade Librarian Dr. Nagaraja Naik M., and members of the teaching and non-teaching staff were present.
