A service revolver discharged while being cleaned in Bhopal, wounding the palm of a Crime Branch head constable, officials said.
In Bhopal, a service revolver unexpectedly fired while a Crime Branch officer was cleaning it. The discharge pierced the palm of a head constable, the senior rank of the branch.
The constable received immediate first‑aid and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical officials reported that the injury was limited to the palm, and the officer’s condition was described as stable.
Police authorities have launched an internal inquiry to determine how the firearm was handled at the time of the incident. The episode underscores the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols when dealing with service weapons, a concern repeatedly highlighted after similar mishaps elsewhere.
The department has not released further details pending the outcome of the investigation.
