Election officials have started counting votes for five state assembly by‑polls and the lone Lok Sabha by‑poll in Assam.
Election officials across Assam commenced the counting of votes today for five vacant state assembly seats and the sole Lok Sabha constituency that went to by‑poll. The counting exercise is being conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission to ensure transparency and accuracy.
The five assembly seats, spread across different districts, became vacant due to resignations and deaths, prompting the by‑polls. The Lok Sabha seat, also vacated recently, adds a national dimension to the exercise as it could affect the balance of power in the lower house.
Results are expected to be declared within the next 24 hours, after which parties will assess the impact on their regional and national strategies. Observers note that voter turnout and party performance in these by‑polls will be closely watched ahead of the next general elections.
