Contract teachers across the country have announced they will begin an indefinite hunger strike to protest against their low salaries.
Contract teachers have issued a warning that they will launch an indefinite hunger strike if their pay demands are not met. They say their current remuneration is insufficient to meet basic living expenses and they have been seeking a salary hike for months.
The teachers’ unions state that the threat is a last resort after repeated negotiations failed to yield any improvement in their compensation packages.
Authorities have yet to respond to the threat, and the teachers’ unions say they are prepared to sustain the protest until a satisfactory solution is reached.
