In Sampla village of Sarwar Panchayat Samiti, Rajasthan, residents unanimously selected Arjun Singh Rathore as sarpanch and elected all 11 ward members without a formal vote.
The residents of Sampla, a village in the Sarwar Panchayat Samiti of Kekri constituency, Rajasthan, demonstrated a rare display of communal harmony by appointing their local governing body through consensus. On the day of the scheduled panchayat elections, the villagers gathered and agreed on Arjun Singh Rathore as the sarpanch, eliminating the need for a ballot.
In addition to the sarpanch, all eleven ward representatives were selected unanimously, with no opposition or contest. The process, described by locals as a "brotherhood" exercise, underscores a growing preference in some rural areas for collaborative decision‑making over conventional electoral competition.
Election officials from the district administration observed the proceedings and confirmed that the consensus method complied with the legal framework governing panchayat elections, provided that all eligible candidates consented to the arrangement. The outcome reflects a community-driven approach to local governance, aiming to foster unity and swift administrative functioning.
The Sarwar Panchayat Samiti will now proceed with its routine duties under the newly formed council, focusing on development projects and public welfare initiatives for the village and surrounding areas.
