Congress activists staged a night protest in Delhi, brandishing Rahul Gandhi’s poster and the national flag while chanting slogans against the central government and setting fire to an effigy of the Home Minister.
Delhi, late night – Hundreds of Congress volunteers gathered outside a central government office in Delhi to denounce the recent detention of Rahul Gandhi and other opposition figures. The demonstrators carried large posters of Gandhi and the Indian tricolour, creating a vivid visual of dissent.
The crowd repeatedly shouted anti‑government slogans, demanding the immediate release of the detained leaders. In a dramatic climax, they set fire to a life‑size effigy of the Home Minister, a symbolic act meant to convey their anger at the administration’s actions.
The protest comes amid heightened political tension after the central government ordered the arrest of Rahul Gandhi on charges related to alleged defamation. Party workers said the move was an attempt to silence dissent ahead of upcoming electoral battles.
Police officials reported that the demonstration remained peaceful overall, with no arrests made despite the burning of the effigy. Security forces monitored the gathering to prevent any escalation.
