Congress march stopped near Haryana CM’s residence, water cannons deployed

A Congress-led protest over the regularisation of HKRN workers was halted near the Haryana chief minister’s residence, with police deploying water cannons to disperse the march.
New Delhi – Police in Chandigarh halted a Congress-organised march that was moving towards the official residence of Haryana’s chief minister. The demonstration was part of a broader agitation demanding the regularisation of workers employed by the Haryana Kisan Rozgar Nigam (HKRN).
As the rally approached the CM’s bungalow, law‑enforcement personnel set up barricades and, after attempts to negotiate a peaceful withdrawal failed, resorted to water‑cannon fire to disperse the crowd. Several protesters were injured and taken for medical attention, while a few were detained for questioning.
The state government has said the use of force was necessary to prevent a breach of security around the chief minister’s premises. Meanwhile, Congress leaders have condemned the action, calling it an excessive response to a legitimate workers’ grievance. The HKRN regularisation issue remains unresolved, with both parties vowing to continue their respective campaigns.
