Despite gaining a lead in Rajasthan’s local body elections, the Congress party could not form several municipal boards and has formed a committee headed by CP Joshi to investigate, promising a report within seven days.
The recent local body elections in Rajasthan have shown the Congress party pulling ahead of its rivals in multiple constituencies, according to provisional results released by the state election commission. Voter turnout was robust, and the party’s campaign focused on development promises that resonated with rural and urban voters alike.
However, the electoral success has been marred by an inability to constitute several municipal and panchayat boards in districts where Congress won. Administrative delays and disputes over candidate nominations have left these local governing bodies without elected leadership, prompting criticism from opposition parties and civil society groups.
In response, the Congress state unit has set up an internal probe committee chaired by senior leader C.P. Joshi. The committee is tasked with examining the reasons behind the board formation failures and recommending corrective measures. Joshi assured party members that the committee will submit its findings within seven days.
Political analysts note that the delay in board formation could affect the party’s ability to deliver on its election promises and may provide an opening for rivals to question its governance competence ahead of the next state assembly elections.
