Senior Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury said the party is regaining momentum in the Northeast and aims to win back seats it lost earlier.
The Indian National Congress is showing signs of revival in the eight northeastern states, where it suffered heavy defeats in the 2019 general election and the 2022 state polls. Party officials point to renewed grassroots activity and a series of local rallies as evidence of a growing organisational base.
Speaking to Hub News, senior leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said the Congress is "rejuvenating" in the region and is confident of reclaiming the ground lost in previous contests. He highlighted recent efforts to field fresh faces, address regional issues such as unemployment and infrastructure, and forge alliances with local parties.
Analysts note that a stronger Congress presence could reshape the political calculus ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the Northeast contributes 14 seats. If the party succeeds in rebuilding its support, it may pose a credible challenge to the ruling BJP in several constituencies.
