Assam's chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the discovery of a fresh narcotics corridor passing through Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, prompting heightened security measures.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma disclosed that law enforcement agencies have mapped a new drug trafficking corridor that cuts across the hilly terrain of Arunachal Pradesh before entering Assam. The route is believed to be used by organised criminal networks to move narcotics from the northeastern border regions towards major markets in the rest of the country.
State police, in coordination with central agencies, have begun intensified patrolling and surveillance along the identified pathways. Checkpoints are being set up at strategic points in both states to intercept shipments and gather intelligence on the syndicates involved.
The discovery follows a series of recent seizures in the region, underscoring the growing challenge of narcotics infiltration in the Northeast. Officials warned that the corridor could facilitate the flow of heroin, methamphetamine and other illicit substances if not promptly disrupted.
Himanta Biswa Sarma urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, assuring that the administration is committed to curbing the menace and safeguarding the youth from drug abuse.
