The state’s meteorological department recorded 930 mm of rain – the highest ever – as the Kharif sowing season nears full coverage.
Chhattisgarh’s meteorological department said the state received 930 millimetres of rain in the past 24 hours, the highest total ever recorded for the region. The measurement, taken across multiple districts, surpasses the previous record by a wide margin.
The intense downpour caused water‑logging in low‑lying areas and temporarily disrupted road and rail traffic. Local authorities issued flood‑watch advisories and deployed emergency teams to assist affected communities.
Farmers have welcomed the rain, noting that the Kharif sowing campaign is already at 98 percent completion, allowing timely planting of paddy and other monsoon crops.
